Build a printable assessment packet for the phonics skills you choose: a set of short word lists for your student to read, a tracker for you to score them, and a spelling sheet. Use it for IEP progress monitoring, reading intervention progress monitoring, or benchmarking.
Every packet is one PDF made from the phonics features and sounds you choose, using the same options as the word list generators. Pick single-syllable words (CVC, digraphs, blends, r-controlled vowels, silent e, vowel teams and more, with real or nonsense words) or multi-syllable words sorted by syllable type.
- Student copies: one list per page in large print for the student to read from. Each list is a different set of words, so you can give a fresh assessment each time. Words only repeat across lists when there aren't enough matching words to go around.
- Progress summary: one row per list for the date, score and percent, plus a line for the student's goal, so you can see progress over time at a glance.
- Tracker: a small table for every list with the same words in the same order as the student copy. Mark each word right or wrong as the student reads, then record the accuracy.
- Spelling assessment page: numbered lines for the student to write on while you read a list aloud. The student copy of that list is your answer key.
Ideas for using assessment packets
- IEP progress monitoring: choose the exact pattern named in the goal (for example, CVC words with short vowels, or words with consonant blends), print enough lists for the year, and give one list at each data collection point. The tracker and summary pages become your data sheets.
- Reading intervention: check mastery of the skill you just taught before moving on, using words the student has not practiced.
- Benchmarking: give the same kind of list at the beginning, middle and end of the year to show growth.
- Nonsense words: include nonsense words to check that students are decoding, not reading from memory.
